2016
After receiving many reports from victims of SamSam ransomware attacks, the FBI starts to analyse the victims’ computer to find out more information about the attacks.
March 2018
Following the Atlanta cyber attack, the city of Atlanta cooperated with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and incident response teams from Microsoft and Cisco to find the source of the virus and how to respond to the attack.
Many government’s computer were stayed powered off for five days. It was told by the officials of Atlanta that the city spent more $9.5 millions to recover from the attack.
However, much more later, according to a report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Channel 2 Action News, the cyber attack cost as much as $17 millions.

At last, two Iranian men were found to be responsible for the SamSam Ransomware attacks.
January 2018
A hospital in Indiana, which was one of the victims of SamSam ransomware attacks, decided to pay the ransom to get the systems continue running. The decision made is due to the fact that the cost of fixing the systems was more than the ransom.

the officials from the Department of Justice and the FBI announced that the two Iranian men have been charged with computer hacking offences.
